What is Advent?

Advent is a season of the liturgical year observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas and the return of Jesus at the Second Coming. Advent is the beginning of the Western liturgical year. The term "Advent" is also used in Eastern Orthodoxy for the 40-day Nativity Fast, which has practices different from those in the West.

What is Christmas?

Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is preceded by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide, which historically in the West lasts twelve days and culminates on Twelfth Night. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many countries, is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as culturally by many non-Christians, and forms an integral part of the holiday season organized around it.

December 1,2024

We will gather for worship at 10:45am. This will be the first Sunday of Advent, the Sunday of Hope. Following worship, we will be decorating the FCC Missoula Campus for Advent/Christmas. This will involve putting up Christmas Trees and decorating them, Putting Up wreaths and putting out our display of Nativities. Once we are all decorated, we will have a Potluck luncheon that gives us time to relax and enjoy being with each other! Everyone is welcome to come and join in the First Sunday of Advent!
